- Could you recap for me what has been going on so far?
We’ve been discussing ways to stabilize Crimea.
- It seems the committee is split into two opposing forces? What forces are you referring to? Russia and its allies vs. the rest of the committee.
- What are they split on?
The question of whether or not a global referendum is necessary to stabilize Crimea. See, there was a global referendum in 2014, but a lot of people thought it was illegitimate.
- The people of Crimea thought it was illegitimate?
The global community thought it was illegitimate. The people of Crimea seemed to be okay with it. - What was the referendum?
A re-vote on whether or not Crimea should be annexed into Russia.
- What’s Russia’s stance on the matter?
Russia was opposed to the idea at first, as they would have had to dole out some massive funds. However, Russia was eventually coerced by the rest of the committee to go along with the revote. - And Russia is okay with this?
Well, Russia has only a few allies in the committee, so they were overruled. Now Russia is saying, “fine, we’ll do the revote, but don’t make us pay for it.”
