Many solutions have been proposed since the start of the crisis but to no avail. Even though there have been improvements in the situation with the passengers of the Oceania Insignia, the Somali pirates have gained many other pieces of leverage such as members of the AU committee. Near the beginning of the discussion, it was proposed that the AU would pay the original $15 000 000 unmarked USD. The AU has then moved on to such solutions such as alternative payments in the form of footlong subway sandwiches which is a popular type of food from the U.S, another type of alternative payment is land used for agriculture and a large payment of food. Since little progress was made during the first third of the committee, the Somali pirates have infiltrated the UN headquarters and have captured 8 members of the AU committee. They have increased the ransom to $100 000 000 USD and demanded for their safe return when the money has been delivered to them. Because AU is not a very well funded branch of the UN, it was decided that paying the ransom is not a suitable solution. However, the AU has become quite desperate due to the execution of multiple passengers and the capture of the UN members. Due to a stroke of luck, many of the captured AU members have managed to trade the lives of the captured passengers and most of themselves with the Oceania Insignia with an estimated value of $100 000 000 USD. However, one of the members of the AU, Zambia, has not been released due to his heroic acts. The delegate of Zambia selflessly sacrificed himself for the lives of his comrades and have angered the pirates. The pirates have not released the delegate of Zambia and have unfairly asked for more money, food, or land in return for his safe return. The AU has designed many preposterous possible solutions to solve the issue such as sending the pirates suitcases full of fake money with a tracking device inside to discover the location of the pirate base as well as to place a bomb in the suitcase to detonate the suitcase and rid the world of these pirates. No matter what the proposed solution is, the interviews with the pirates as well as a higher voice of reason reduces the proposed solutions to dust. At the end of the conference, the committee reached the consensus that the life of the Zambia delegate is not worth letting the pirates escape so an attack is planned against them. The AU has also requested assistance from the Chinese army and battle ships from Chinese ports are arriving shortly to combat the pirates. While the plan has not yet been put into action, the committee believes this to be the best solution and have concluded.
