The delegates of the International Labor Organization (ILO) started debating on their first topic, the Exploitation of Migrant Workers. In a flurry of conflicting opinions, the delegates of the ILO decided to settle on a common problem to debate about which is “a host country's responsibilities towards migrant workers.”
Many delegates spoke their opinion on the topic, yet there was really no debate to it at all. Tony Chen, one of the two Chairs of ILO, stated that, “all countries are in favor of having the host country be responsible for the migrant workers, it’s just how responsible the host countries should be. That’s where most of the debate is headed right now.”
Delegates also expressed similar opinions on how responsible host countries should be with migrant workers. They concurred with each other, especially with the opening statement the delegate of the United States of America presented. The United States mainly stated that the host country is responsible for all the migrant workers; this includes their safety and education. During and after these remarks, one could hear the banging of tables throughout the entirety of the ground floor. Later on in the moderated caucus, the delegate of Korea brought up the point that these migrant workers should have their rights protected as well. “Just because they are migrant workers doesn’t mean they shouldn’t have equal rights as others. We are all human, we should have the same rights,” affirmed Korea.
In summary, most of the ILO is in harmony and basically all countries agree with each other. All countries agree that they should help migrant workers as soon as possible.
